The Week in Review

Yay!  I've finally had time to catch up on my RSS feed, and now I can share my favorites from the week with you.  But first, I wanted to let you know what I got in my CSA this week.  I completely forgot to take a picture of our haul and ate half of it before I remembered!  This week we received:
  • Red potatoes
  • Okra
  • Hothouse tomatoes
  • Heirloom tomatoes
  • Sungold cherry tomatoes
  • Jalepeños
  • Sage
And as for what I've read, here are my favorites from the week!
  • I'm expecting a boatload of zucchini any day now, and since my family isn't really fond of the vegetable, I've been keeping an eye out for new ways to serve it.  I found this Zucchini Ribbon Salad at A Couple Cooks and think it may just be a winner.  One of our issues with zucchini is its texture when cooked, so uncooked ribbons might work for us!
  • I grew up eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day, but never at any other time of the year.  Now that school's starting back up, I'm on the hunt for easy and healthy meals.  Our Life in Food's Spicy Black-Eyed Peas with Bacon will make it onto our non-New Year's menu just as soon as this heat wave breaks!
  • Last fall, my daughter tried quinoa for the first time and loved it.  I promised her I'd make some at home, but somehow, I never got around to it.  On a whim last week, I bought some quinoa, and then ran across this post from 2006 (!) at What We're Eating about a Quinoa Salad with Thyme/Lime Vinaigrette.  Mmmmm...
  • And finally, we always need to end on a sweet note.  :-)  Dishing Up Delights' Brown Sugar Chocolate Chunk Scones caught my eye.  I love anything with brown sugar...and the chocolate doesn't hurt either!  I've been promising my coworkers that I'd bring some baked goods in soon, and this may make the list.
What have you been reading this week?
